EDITING
“The whole eloquence of cinema is achieved in the editing room.”
Walter Murch – film editor, director and writer
AWARD WINNING EDITOR
EDITING SERVICES
With extensive experience editing across a wide range of productions, I bring technical expertise and intuitive creative judgement to every project. Whether the brief is commercial work or a complex, story-driven production, I have the professional setup, workflow, and capacity to deliver at a consistently high standard. I can work seamlessly with clients remotely with high-speed data transfer and real-time online collaboration. Let me take care of your footage.
BACKGROUND
My editing journey began with the wonderfully organic medium of Super-8 film, before moving briefly into 16mm, including training with the brilliant Julian Doyle, editor of several Monty Python films. From there came the world of tape: Betacam, DVCAM and HDCAM, before I embraced digital filming and NLE editing.
Today, I edit everything from HD and 4K through to 6K RAW in a high-end edit suite. My experience covers a wide range of formats and styles, including short films, news, promos, music videos, business films, animation and fashion. I’ve also worked as a TV editor, learning to deliver under pressure, meet unforgiving deadlines and work to broadcast requirements including strict Ofcom compliance and frame-accurate programme timings.
I can be highly technical and precise, working methodically through complex footage and demanding post-production requirements, or I can take a more organic approach, particularly when working on personal, emotional or creatively sensitive projects.
Most importantly, I’m a personable, collaborative editor who enjoys getting inside a project, understanding what a client wants to achieve and finding the story within the material. Whether working face-to-face or remotely, I aim to make the edit process creative, productive and most of all, enjoyable.
LATEST PROJECT
Touching Colours is a 23 minute short film written, produced and directed by Linda M James. It’s not been released yet but has already won three awards at London, New York and Paris film festivals for best drama and best short film. It’s a moving story of an artist whose deeply traumatic descent into blindness over three terrifying days and subsequent descent in to darkness. However, something miraculous happens a year later. THE EDITING SUITE
HARDWARE
An efficient, productive and competent film editing system has to be fast, reliable and powerful. I commissioned a bespoke top-tier PC system that handles high definition (such as 6K uncompressed RAW) with ease. As well as having a mighty 24 thread modern processor, the edit suite has a powerful graphic card, blistering fast 128GB of memory and over 10Tb of cam storage. A four monitor set up enables multiple applications to be open at once, helping streamline the editing process even further. The system is hardwired into high speed fibre broadband for fast upload and sharing ability.
